An Excello man remains in custody after he waived his preliminary hearing today.
Caleb J. Harland is charged with second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance in case 26MA-CR00218-01. Both charges are class D felonies punishable by up to seven years in the Department of Corrections.
Harland is being held on $20,000 cash-only bond.
Macon police opened the investigation July 2, according to the probable cause statement filed by Officer Jonathan Wood. Wood wrote that Harland entered Harland Rentals, took a truck, returned the vehicle when asked, and was placed in custody. Wood wrote that Harland consented to a search of a backpack and that a substance inside field-tested positive for amphetamines.
An arraignment is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 9 before Circuit Judge Rick Tucker in Macon.
A criminal charge is an accusation. Harland is presumed innocent.
