Madden Irving, of Truman State, ran for two touchdowns and threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to himself, and Truman State University beat Indianapolis 29-27 in football Saturday at Stokes Stadium.
Alijah Jackman, of Truman State, caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Hair, of Truman State, in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. Diego Perez, of Truman State, kicked the extra point. Zach Hermanson, of Indianapolis, kicked a 41-yard field goal in the second for a 7-3 score at halftime.
Cole Bennett, of Indianapolis, caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Nick Patterson, of Indianapolis, early in the third for a 10-7 lead. Irving, of Truman State, scored on a 14-yard run to put Truman State ahead 14-10. Hermanson, of Indianapolis, kicked a 33-yard field goal late in the third for a 14-13 score.
Irving, of Truman State, scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth, and Mikell Burden, of Truman State, threw for a two-point conversion for a 22-13 lead. Garrett Sherrell, of Indianapolis, scored on a 7-yard run to make it 22-20. Irving, of Truman State, then completed a 75-yard touchdown pass to himself on the next snap for a 29-20 lead. Callen Okerson, of Indianapolis, caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Patterson, of Indianapolis, with 8:10 left to make it 29-27. Truman State ran out the clock from there. Perez, of Truman State, kicked three extra points. Hermanson, of Indianapolis, kicked three.
Irving, of Truman State, ran 25 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns and completed his only pass for 75 yards and a touchdown. Hair, of Truman State, completed 10 of 19 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown with one interception and ran five times for 26 yards. Cori Robertson, of Truman State, caught one pass for 61 yards. Jackson Overton, of Truman State, caught three for 58 yards. Kel Battle, of Truman State, caught three for 22 yards. Jackman, of Truman State, caught one for 1 yard and a touchdown. Duan McRoberts, of Truman State, ran four times for 21 yards.
Patterson, of Indianapolis, completed 22 of 32 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns and was sacked five times. Giovani Laurent, of Indianapolis, caught five passes for 90 yards. Anthony Crowell, of Indianapolis, caught five for 65 yards. Kaleb Carver, of Indianapolis, caught four for 62 yards. Sherrell, of Indianapolis, ran eight times for 18 yards and a touchdown. Bennett, of Indianapolis, caught two for 21 yards and a touchdown. Okerson, of Indianapolis, caught two for 18 yards and a touchdown.
Bryant Pool, of Truman State, had nine tackles. Jackman, of Truman State, had seven. Connor Beerman, of Truman State, had six. Tucker McDowell, of Truman State, had 2.5 sacks. TJ Cothron, of Indianapolis, had 11 tackles. Eli Liapis, of Indianapolis, and Alvin Contreras, of Indianapolis, each had nine. DeBrince Johnson, of Indianapolis, intercepted a pass.
Truman State outgained Indianapolis 428-318 with 201 rushing yards and 227 passing yards. Indianapolis passed for 281 yards and rushed for 37. Truman State held the ball for 31:21 to 28:35.
