GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport beat Truman State University 28-14 in football Saturday.
Mac VandenHout, of Davenport, caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Landon Tungate, of Davenport, in the first quarter. Luke Allen, of Truman State, returned the kickoff 77 yards to the Davenport 18. Madden Irving, of Truman State, caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Hair, of Truman State, and Diego Perez, of Truman State, kicked the extra point to tie it at 7-7.
Tungate scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. Cephus Harris, of Davenport, scored on a 1-yard run in the third, making it 21-7.
Nathan Ryan, of Truman State, caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Hair early in the fourth. Harris scored again from a yard out for the final margin.
Hair completed 14 of 26 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. Jonathan Palmer, of Davenport, completed 11 of 14 for 112 yards and ran 16 times for 97 yards. Harris ran 23 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Ryan caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Overton, of Truman State, and Jalen Kent, of Truman State, each caught three for 42 yards. Irving caught three for 6 yards and a touchdown and ran seven times for 30 yards.
Jack Weltha, of Truman State, had 14 tackles. Connor Beerman, of Truman State, had 11. Logan Montoya, of Truman State, forced a fumble and recovered one. Alex Cook, of Truman State, recovered another. Christian Cramer, of Davenport, and Caleb Aungst, of Davenport, each intercepted a pass.
Davenport outgained Truman State 397-270 and held the ball for 36:56. Perez missed a 30-yard field goal late in the first half.
Attendance was 925.
Truman State is 0-2. Davenport is 2-0.
