An Excello man is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond on a class C felony charge of stealing $25,000 or more.
Nikolas J. Hulett was arrested Sept. 17, according to the return. The warrant was served that day at 4:26 p.m. by the Macon County Sheriff's Office. He was charged Sept. 17 in Macon County Circuit Court in case 26MA-CR00257.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Cody Wells filed a one-count complaint. Hulett is charged with stealing $25,000 or more, a class C felony.
According to the complaint, on or about July 22, 2026, in Macon County, Hulett appropriated miscellaneous construction tools and copper wire valued at $25,000 or more.
Judge Kristen Burks issued the warrant Sept. 17. The bond is $50,000 cash only.
The Macon County Sheriff's Office opened the investigation July 22 after a report of theft at Long Branch Lake Campgrounds, according to the probable cause statement filed by Deputy Jermey Nelson. Nelson wrote that Deputy Dakota Cunningham took the report and that the victim estimated the stolen construction tools and copper wire at about $33,316.75. Cunningham wrote that Anabel Recycling later linked a sale to Hulett and that the victim identified property from the recycler. The sheriff's office and the Macon Police Department executed a search warrant July 28 and recovered property at another residence, according to the statement.
Stealing $25,000 or more is punishable by imprisonment in the Missouri Department of Corrections for three to 10 years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine, according to the complaint. If money or property was gained through the offense, any fine may be not more than double the offender's gain.
A bond appearance hearing is set for 11 a.m. Sept. 21 before Judge Burks in Macon.
A criminal charge is an accusation. Hulett is presumed innocent.
