Little Giant Ladder Systems is recalling about 3,662,000 ladders with Rapid Locks because the ladders can suddenly retract if the locks are not fully engaged, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.
The company has received 25 reports of the ladders retracting, including 19 reports of injuries, according to the commission. Three involved head injuries such as traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, concussion, vision loss, hearing loss, and cognitive impairment. The other 16 involved injuries such as joint or bone fractures, lacerations, and bruising. Little Giant has also received 39 reports of Rapid Locks not working properly.
The recall covers the Adjustable Fortress 2.0, Conquest 2.0, Dark Horse 2.0, Epic, King Kombo XT, Leveler, MegaLite, MegaLite+, Multi, Quantum, and Vector models. Rapid Locks are black or orange and sit on each ladder leg, where they insert into the rungs to adjust the height. The brand and model name are on the side of the ladder. Only ladders without an orange rectangular "QC" sticker on the rail above one of the Rapid Locks are included.
The ladders were sold at Lowe's, Costco, and other stores nationwide, and online at Lowes.com, Amazon.com, Costco.com, LittleGiantLadders.com, and other websites, from December 2015 through October 2026. They cost about $100 to $1,000.
Owners who have one of the listed models without the orange QC sticker should stop using the ladder immediately. Contact Little Giant for a free repair kit with warning labels and instructions, review the information at www.littlegiantladders.com/pages/recalls, or use the QR code on the ladder, according to the recall notice. The labels, which should be affixed to the ladder, tell users to check that the Rapid Locks are properly engaged before every use and to keep the locks lubricated.
If a lock still does not work after lubrication, owners should contact Little Giant for an evaluation. If it fails that evaluation, the company will offer a replacement ladder of the same or equivalent model or a refund. The refund ranges from a depreciated value based on purchase date up to the full price for ladders bought within the past 12 months.
Owners can reach Little Giant toll-free at 866-201-9069 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central time (6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mountain) Monday through Friday, or online at www.littlegiantladders.com/pages/recalls.
