HANNIBAL – The Northeast Coalition for Roadway Safety is making grant funds available to local schools located within the Northeast District that host student lock-in events for Project Prom or high school graduation celebrations. To qualify, schools must include an activity or presentation that educates students about highway safety. Qualifying schools will receive a $200 grant to help offset costs related to the event, including venue rental, food, or entertainment. “These supervised lock-in events provide students with a safe environment to celebrate important milestones with their peers,” said Northeast District Traffic Engineer Jonathan Bruner. “The consequences of impaired or distracted driving can be life-altering in an instant. Our goal is for students to leave these events with great memories – not preventable tragedies.” Grant applications are currently being accepted through Feb. 21, 2026. Interested schools or event sponsors may apply online by visiting Project Prom-Graduation Grant | Missouri Department of Transportation (modot.org) . Funding is limited and available for up to 20 schools. For more information, contact Northeast Coalition Facilitator Gerri Jeffries at (573) 248-2502 or Northeast Coalition Representative Tina Lee at (573) 248-2517.
